Instead of continuing to refine the river, I turn my attention to subdividing another one of our original 11 shapes.

Doing just a little bit of work on each shape in turn helps the painting to come into focus as a whole. This makes it easier for me to make effective decisions as I paint, so that the painting is a unified statement with all its component parts working together in harmony.

Here I add one darker green and one lighter green to the foliage to add a sense of three-dimensional volume.
